Canoeing, kayaking and rafting – High Country

White water rafting in the High Country

Paddle your way to a unique High Country perspective as you hit the pristine waterways and wild ravines on canoe, kayak or raft.

Cruising rivers and lakes
Grab your oars and canoe or kayak around Lake Eildon, and the Ovens and Buckland rivers around Bright. Try your hand at dragon boating at Rocky Valley Dam near Falls Creek and catch the spectacle of professionals competing every January.

Building up speed on rivers and rapids
Enjoy summer on the beautiful Howqua and Delatite rivers near Mansfield. Observe the ratings guides and canoe and kayak or increase the adrenaline and go white-water rafting on a challenging stretch of river. Be aware that high water means high rapids and these should only be tackled by experienced paddlers.

For unforgettable white-water rafting experiences, head for the Mitta Mitta River, which runs through the Alpine National Park. Raft along a spectacular granite ravine, past 18 kilometres of rock formations through numerous grade three and four rapids. The King is another excellent white water rafting river, with over 40 rapids from grade 2 to grade 4.
